International Links
The Outdoor Education Centres have a long tradition of international links with outdoor and environmental organisations, youth leaders and young people. In 1990, in partnership with the Centre for Global Education and WWF, Low Bank Ground hosted the first East- West European Environmental Education Conference which has led to many youth exchanges and joint international projects. As a result young people from Wigan have taken part in international exchanges in France, Greece, Spain and Norway.
Since 1994, Low Bank Ground has hosted 12 European Youth Events for 18-25 year olds from some 16 European countries. Partly funded by the EU “Youth for Europe” programme they have been based on environmental themes such as “Biodiversity”, “Arts, Community and Environment” and “Sustainability”.
Several short training courses for European youth leaders have been organised on “Promoting outdoor activities in International Youth Events” and on “Managing safe and exciting Outdoor programmes”.
