Self Catering

At Low Bank Ground, Coniston

There are three options for self catering at Low Bank Ground:

1. Highfield- This stone built building looks out across Conistonwater to the Coniston Fells with direct access to the lakeshore. The building sleeps 32 in 10 bedrooms. There is a mixture of bunk and single beds and half of the rooms have en-suite bathrooms. Two large bedrooms are suitable for wheelchair users. There is a kitchen/dining/sitting room upstairs and a drying room downstairs.

2. Rough Close- This traditional Lakeland building has four bedrooms each with their own bathroom and sleeps 14. There is a kitchen and large dining room/lounge with TV and video and a separate drying room. Access to the lakeshore is across the fields.

3. Whole Centre- It is possible to hire both Highfield and Rough Close, giving a total of 46 beds. A reduced rate is given to groups hiring the whole centre.

Groups self catering at Low Bank Ground can book activity sessions for example, kayaking, canoeing, raft building, gorge scrambling, orienteering, mountain walking led by Centre staff during their stay.

At Hinning House, Duddon Valley

This attractive stone building is set in the mountains by the beautiful River Duddon. It can accommodate groups of up to 30 persons all in bunk beds; 4 rooms each with 6 beds and 3 rooms each with two beds. There are three bathrooms. Downstairs there is a kitchen, dining room/lounge with TV and video, a small classroom/seminar room and a drying room.

This is a great location for those who like peace and quiet and the feeling of being close to the mountains. Just three miles down the valley is a hostelry with an excellent reputation for its food.
